20-Year-Old Ashlynn Owens killed in Late-Night Shooting on Indianapolis West Side

INDIANAPOLIS — A tragic late-night shooting on the west side of Indianapolis has claimed the life of a 20-year-old woman, leaving family members grieving and investigators searching for answers. The incident unfolded just before midnight and has raised concerns as authorities continue to piece together what happened.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), officers were called to the 4900 block of Rockville Road near South Lynhurst Drive on May 2, 2026, after reports of a person shot. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a young woman suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victim was identified as Ashlynn Owens, 20. Emergency medical personnel immediately began providing aid at the scene before rushing her to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts to save her life, Owens later died from her injuries, leaving loved ones devastated by the sudden loss.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death in the coming days. Meanwhile, investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting, which remain unclear as detectives work to gather more information.
