Two Men Killed in Head-On Crash After Passing Attempt on Indiana Highway

DEARBORN COUNTY, Ind. — A tragic early morning crash in Moores Hill has claimed the lives of two men, leaving families devastated and investigators working to determine the full circumstances behind a deadly head-on collision on State Route 350.

According to Dearborn County Sheriff Shane J. McHenry, deputies were dispatched just before 6:30 a.m. Friday to the area of 13108 State Route 350 after reports of a serious crash. When first responders arrived, they found both drivers had suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say 27-year-old Cole Gaylord was driving westbound in a Hyundai Elantra when he attempted to pass an empty school bus in a clearly marked no-passing zone. During the maneuver, his vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane of traffic.

At that same moment, 38-year-old Kyle Inferrara was traveling eastbound in a Chevy Trax. Authorities say the two vehicles collided head-on with significant force, resulting in catastrophic damage to both vehicles. Despite emergency response efforts, both men were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash scene was described as severe, with debris scattered across the roadway and both vehicles heavily damaged. The Indiana State Police reconstruction team assisted deputies in carefully documenting evidence as investigators worked to reconstruct the moments leading up to the impact.

State Route 350 was closed for approximately three hours while authorities processed the scene and cleared the roadway. Deputy Craig Elliot of the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing as officials review all contributing factors to the crash and the events that led to the fatal passing attempt.
