EAST DUBLIN, Ga. — A devastating two-vehicle crash late Sunday night in Laurens County has left three people dead and multiple children injured, according to officials with the Georgia State Patrol and the Laurens County Coroner’s Office. The tragedy unfolded in the final hours of May 3 and has deeply shaken the local community.
Authorities say the crash happened around 11:51 p.m. at the intersection of Georgia Highway 29 South and JW Warren Road in East Dublin. Investigators report that two vehicles collided head-on under circumstances that are still being examined as part of an active investigation.
According to officials, one vehicle was driven by 29-year-old Damarcus Tyrell Wimbush of Millen, Georgia, while the other was driven by 35-year-old Chelsea Elizabeth Wilson of Soperton. The impact between the two vehicles was severe, resulting in catastrophic damage and multiple fatalities at the scene and in the hours that followed.
Laurens County Deputy Coroner Nathan Stanley confirmed that Wimbush was pronounced dead at the scene around 1 a.m. Monday. Wilson and her 16-year-old daughter, Aliah Michelle Smith, were both transported to Fairview Park Hospital following the crash but later died from their injuries. Wilson was pronounced dead at 1:12 a.m., and Smith at 2:37 a.m.
Officials said all three victims died as a result of multiple blunt force trauma sustained in the collision. The crash also involved two other children who were in Wilson’s vehicle at the time. One child was treated at Fairview Park Hospital and is expected to recover, while the other was airlifted to a hospital in Augusta for further care. Their conditions have not been publicly released.
As investigators continue to piece together what led to the deadly collision, Deputy Coroner Stanley reflected on the suddenness of the tragedy, saying, “It’s sad. A lot of lives changed in a split second.” The Georgia State Patrol remains actively investigating the crash as families and the community mourn an unimaginable loss.
