A tragic late-night crash in Cockeysville, Baltimore County, has left an 18-year-old dead and three other teenagers injured. Ryan Duvall, 18, was killed in a single-vehicle accident that happened near the intersection of Poplar Hill Road and Merrymans Mill Road on the night of May 1, leaving a community in shock and a family devastated by sudden loss.
According to Baltimore County police, officers were dispatched to the scene at about 9:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash in the area. When emergency crews arrived, they found a vehicle that had left the roadway and violently struck a tree along Poplar Hill Road. The impact was severe, causing major damage to the car.
Investigators said their preliminary findings show that the vehicle was traveling southbound on Poplar Hill Road when it suddenly veered off the road for reasons that are still not known. Ryan Duvall, who was riding as a passenger in the vehicle, suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
Three juveniles were also inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. Police confirmed that the teenage driver and one juvenile passenger sustained life-threatening injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment. A third juvenile passenger also survived but suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.
Authorities have not yet determined what caused the vehicle to leave the road. It is still unclear whether speed, distraction, road conditions, or other factors played a role in the crash. Police said their investigation remains active, and crash reconstruction teams are working to gather more evidence to understand exactly what happened that night.
As the investigation continues, Ryan Duvall’s family is mourning his sudden death. His brother, Jamie, has started a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses and support their mother, who is taking time off work to grieve. The family says they are heartbroken and struggling to cope with the unexpected tragedy, as friends and neighbors offer condolences and support.
