HUDSON COUNTY, N.J. — A fatal stabbing in broad daylight has left a 47-year-old Jersey City man dead and led to the swift arrest of a suspect, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello. The incident has raised concerns in the community as investigators continue working to understand what led to the deadly confrontation.
Authorities say the stabbing occurred on May 3, 2026, at approximately 12:35 p.m. when Jersey City police were called to Dwight Street near Bergen Avenue after reports of a violent incident. When officers arrived at the scene, they found an unresponsive man suffering from multiple apparent stab wounds.
The victim was identified as Kareem Mack, 47, of Jersey City. Emergency responders quickly transported him to Jersey City Medical Center in critical condition. Despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life, Mack was pronounced dead shortly after 1:10 p.m., officials confirmed.
Following the stabbing, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department launched a joint investigation. Detectives secured the scene, gathered evidence, and began working to identify a suspect connected to the attack.
Investigators later identified 26-year-old Kyshawn Foster, also of Jersey City, as a person of interest in the case. Authorities say Foster was located in Hoboken on Jackson Street and taken into custody without incident by law enforcement officers following a coordinated search effort.
Foster has since been formally charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is currently being held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility as he awaits his first court appearance. Officials also noted that the case is being investigated as a possible act of domestic violence, though further details have not been released. Prosecutor Mello emphasized that the charges are allegations and that the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to interview witnesses and gather additional evidence.
