Crockery Township, Michigan — A tragic early-morning crash has claimed the life of a 35-year-old motorcyclist, leaving family, friends, and the local community in shock. Authorities with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Cody Marston of Spring Lake, who died following a collision involving a pickup truck on State Road.
Deputies say they were called to the scene just before 12:30 a.m. on Sunday after reports of a serious motorcycle-versus-vehicle crash west of 136th Avenue. When first responders arrived, they found Marston lying in the roadway with severe injuries after being thrown from his motorcycle during the impact.
Emergency crews immediately began life-saving efforts at the scene, working urgently to stabilize him. Despite their quick response and attempts to save his life, Marston was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.
Preliminary investigations show that Marston was traveling westbound on State Road at the time of the crash. At the same moment, a pickup truck driven by a 39-year-old man from Kalamazoo, carrying two passengers, was backing out of a private driveway onto the roadway.
Authorities say Marston attempted to pass the truck on the right side as it was entering the road. During that maneuver, his motorcycle collided with the front corner of the pickup truck. The impact was described as violent, causing Marston to be separated from his motorcycle.
The driver of the pickup truck and both passengers were not injured in the crash. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident to determine all contributing factors, including speed, visibility, and road conditions. Officials say the investigation remains active as they work to fully understand how the crash happened and to bring clarity to a tragedy that has left a young man’s life cut short.
