57-year-old Barry Anthony Killed in fatal Crash on Waterlick Road in Campbell County

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. — A 57-year-old man lost his life in a tragic single-vehicle crash Tuesday morning after his car ran off the road and overturned on a rural stretch of Waterlick Road, authorities said. The incident is now being investigated by state officials as they try to determine what led to the deadly wreck.

According to the Virginia State Police, troopers were dispatched at about 7:52 a.m. following reports of a serious crash near Waterlick Road, roughly one mile west of Lawyers Road. When emergency responders arrived, they found a damaged vehicle lying off the roadway after what appeared to be a violent rollover.

Investigators say the vehicle involved was a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. For reasons still unknown, it left the roadway and overturned multiple times before coming to a stop. The crash scene showed signs of a sudden loss of control, but officials have not yet determined what caused the driver to veer off the road.

The driver was identified as Barry Eugene Anthony, 57, of Lynch Station. Authorities confirmed that he was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severe injuries he suffered in the rollover.

Officials also reported that Anthony was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Investigators believe this may have contributed to the fatal outcome, especially given the force of the rollover and the fact that he was thrown from the vehicle upon impact.

The crash remains under active investigation as troopers continue to examine all possible factors, including speed, road conditions, and mechanical issues. Authorities are urging drivers to always wear seatbelts, stressing that proper restraint use greatly reduces the risk of death in serious accidents, particularly in rollover crashes.
