Young Mother, Ariana Herrera Killed in Suspected Murder-Suicide Outside Abilene Nightclub

Abilene, Texas — A devastating early-morning shooting has claimed the life of a 25-year-old mother in what authorities believe to be a murder-suicide involving her estranged partner. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on May 3, 2026, outside the Vybz nightclub in the 100 block of Eplens Court, leaving the community stunned and grieving.

The victim has been identified as Ariana Herrera of Abilene. According to the Abilene Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire and arrived to find Herrera inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds. Emergency responders attempted to save her, but she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities also identified a second individual, 26-year-old Ja’lavion Navea Beaver, who was found a short distance away with what investigators described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was also pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say the two were in an estranged relationship, which is believed to have played a role in the incident.

Investigators believe an argument may have taken place in the parking lot shortly before the shooting. Preliminary findings suggest Beaver shot Herrera while she was seated in her vehicle before turning the weapon on himself. However, authorities have not released a confirmed motive and say the case remains under active investigation.

Records from Taylor County show that Beaver had previously been arrested in January on allegations involving threats of a domestic nature. Investigators are now reviewing past interactions and evidence to better understand the events leading up to the tragic shooting.

As the Abilene community mourns, support has begun to pour in for Herrera’s loved ones, especially her young son, Princeton. A GoFundMe campaign has already raised thousands of dollars to assist with funeral costs and provide for the child’s future. Friends and family remember Ariana as a loving and devoted mother, whose life was cut short far too soon, leaving behind heartbreak and a lasting void.
