34-Year-Old Ajay J. Woodward Killed in Motorcycle Crash on Route 42 Near Catawissa

A tragic motorcycle crash in Columbia County, Pennsylvania, has claimed the life of 34-year-old Ajay J. Woodward of Numidia. The fatal accident happened Saturday afternoon along Route 42 near Catawissa, leaving his family, friends, and the local community in shock and mourning.

Authorities with Catawissa police confirmed that Woodward was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on Route 42 (Numidia Drive) after leaving the Catawissa area when the crash occurred. Investigators said the crash happened as he was navigating a curve in the roadway.

According to police, Woodward appeared to lose control of the motorcycle while entering a bend along the rural road. Officers reported finding skid marks in the gravel along the roadside, suggesting that the motorcycle lost traction before it went down. Investigators believe the bike was laid down prior to the impact.

After losing control, the motorcycle struck a guardrail with significant force. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene at approximately 4:45 p.m. Despite their quick response and efforts to provide aid, Woodward suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by officials.

Following the crash, Route 42 was shut down between Kulp Road and Slabtown Road for several hours. The closure allowed Catawissa police and county investigators to carefully examine the scene, document evidence, and begin reconstructing the events that led to the deadly accident.

Route 42 is a rural two-lane highway that runs through Columbia County, connecting communities such as Catawissa and Numidia. The section where the crash occurred includes curves and elevation changes that can be difficult for motorists and motorcyclists, especially under challenging road conditions. The crash remains under active investigation, and authorities have not yet released additional details as they continue working to determine exactly what caused the loss of control.
