LYNNFIELD, Mass. — The Massachusetts State Police are mourning the tragic loss of 30-year-old Trooper Kevin Trainor, who was killed early Wednesday morning, May 6, 2026, in a devastating wrong-way crash on Route 1 in Lynnfield. According to Colonel Geoffrey Noble of the Massachusetts State Police, the crash happened around 2:00 a.m. Troopers were responding to urgent reports of a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 1. Officers were attempting to locate and stop the vehicle when the fatal collision occurred, turning what was already a dangerous situation into a tragedy.
Authorities said a four-door Jeep Wrangler driving in the wrong direction struck a marked State Police cruiser head-on. The impact was extremely violent. The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not yet released the identity of the driver as the investigation continues and family notifications are completed.
