DOVER, Del. — A tragic single-vehicle crash in Dover has claimed the life of 26-year-old Aalyah Casson of Felton, leaving a community in mourning and investigators searching for answers. The deadly incident occurred in the early hours of May 6, shaking residents as details continue to emerge.
According to the Dover Police Department, officers responded at approximately 12:44 a.m. to the Unit Block of South New Street, just south of West Division Street, after receiving reports of a serious crash. Emergency responders arrived quickly to find a heavily damaged vehicle at the scene.
Police say a 2013 Nissan Murano had veered off the roadway and struck a tree on the east side. Inside the vehicle, officers found Casson suffering from critical injuries. First responders immediately began life-saving efforts, but despite their attempts, she was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries.
Preliminary findings indicate Casson had been traveling westbound on West Division Street before turning left onto South New Street at what investigators described as a high rate of speed. Shortly after making the turn, the vehicle left the roadway, leading to the fatal crash.
Authorities also noted that Casson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, a factor that may have contributed to the severity of her injuries. Investigators continue to review evidence and reconstruct the sequence of events to better understand what caused the crash.
The loss of Aalyah Casson has deeply impacted family, friends, and the broader Dover community. As the investigation remains ongoing, officials are asking anyone with information to come forward, while also reminding the public of the importance of safe driving practices every time they get behind the wheel.
