Man Fatally Stabbed During Overnight Incident at Busch Stadium in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — A man has died following a stabbing that occurred in the early hours of Monday morning at Busch Stadium in downtown St. Louis, according to police. The incident has prompted a homicide investigation and the detention of a 65-year-old suspect as authorities work to determine what led to the deadly confrontation.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said officers were dispatched just before 3:00 a.m. to the 700 block of Clark Avenue after receiving reports of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they located a 27-year-old man suffering from serious stab wounds. Despite emergency response efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Loved ones have identified the victim as “Headshotking Chopo,” and his death has sparked grief among family and community members as investigators continue working the case. His identity has not yet been formally released by the medical examiner pending official procedures.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene to lead the investigation. Officers spent hours securing and examining an area on the south side of the stadium near the players’ parking lot, where early evidence suggests the incident occurred during an overnight work period.

According to preliminary information from police, the stabbing stemmed from a dispute between third-party contractors working at the stadium. Authorities confirmed that a 65-year-old man has been taken into custody and is being held pending further investigation as detectives continue gathering statements and evidence.

Police spokesperson Mitch McCoy said the incident appears to be isolated and stressed that it was not related to public stadium activity. The St. Louis Cardinals confirmed that contracted workers were present at the time and said they are fully cooperating with law enforcement. The team also emphasized that stadium security was not breached and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Authorities say the investigation remains active as detectives work to fully understand the circumstances that led to the fatal dispute.
