PRIOR LAKE, Minn. — Authorities in Prior Lake are continuing to investigate the deaths of two people found inside a residential home over the weekend, a case that has left the community unsettled and waiting for answers. Officials have identified the deceased as 35-year-old William Smith and 34-year-old Laura Smith.
According to the Prior Lake Police Department, officers were dispatched around 9:00 a.m. on May 2 to a home near Spruce Trail and Spruce Circle after receiving a request for a welfare check. The call prompted concern for the well-being of those inside the residence.
When officers arrived, they determined that immediate entry into the home was necessary. Once inside, they discovered both William and Laura Smith deceased in a bedroom. At that time, their identities were withheld while authorities worked to notify family members.
Following the discovery, the home was secured as investigators began a detailed examination of the scene. Evidence collection and initial interviews were conducted as officials worked to understand the timeline leading up to the tragic discovery.
The investigation is being led by local authorities with assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Officials say there is currently no known threat to the public, and no suspect is being sought at this time, which has provided some reassurance to residents.
Authorities are awaiting results from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office, which will determine the official cause and manner of death. Those findings are expected to play a key role in clarifying whether the deaths were due to natural causes, an accident, suicide, or other circumstances. As the investigation continues, officials are urging patience while they work to piece together what happened inside the Prior Lake home.
