Aaron Vidales Jr. Killed in Early Morning Shooting at Dollar Tree Parking Lot

JOLIET, Ill. — A tragic shooting early Sunday morning has claimed the life of a 31-year-old man in Joliet, leaving authorities searching for those responsible. The deadly incident unfolded in a parking lot on the city’s west side, raising concerns about late-night violence in the area.

According to Joliet police, the shooting occurred at approximately 1:51 a.m. in the 2900 block of Colorado Avenue. An officer who was near Anthony’s Restaurant and Pub at the time reported hearing several gunshots coming from the direction of a nearby Dollar Tree parking lot, prompting a rapid response.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim, identified as Aaron Lee Vidales Jr., suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. First responders quickly rendered aid before he was transported by the Joliet Fire Department to St. Joseph Medical Center for emergency treatment.

Despite efforts by medical staff, Vidales was pronounced dead at approximately 3 a.m., according to the Will County Coroner’s Office. His death has been ruled a homicide, and officials say the investigation is now focused on identifying those involved in the shooting.

Police said investigators recovered multiple spent shell casings from the parking lot, along with a handgun believed to be connected to the incident. In addition, two unoccupied vehicles and a nearby dispensary were struck by gunfire, highlighting the dangerous nature of the shooting and the risk posed to others in the area.

As of Monday, no suspects have been taken into custody. Detectives continue to follow leads and are urging anyone with information, including surveillance footage or eyewitness accounts, to come forward. Authorities encourage the public to contact the Joliet Police Department’s Investigations Division or submit anonymous tips through Will County Crime Stoppers as the search for answers continues.
