Crockery Township, Michigan — A tragic crash in the early hours of Sunday morning has claimed the life of a 35-year-old motorcyclist, leaving a community grieving. Authorities have identified the victim as Cody Marston of Spring Lake, who died following a collision involving a pickup truck on State Road.
According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched just before 12:30 a.m. to the area west of 136th Avenue after receiving reports of a motorcycle-versus-vehicle crash. When first responders arrived, they found Marston with severe injuries after being separated from his motorcycle during the impact.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Marston was traveling westbound on State Road at the time of the crash. At the same moment, a pickup truck driven by a 39-year-old Kalamazoo man, with two passengers inside, was backing out of a private driveway onto the roadway, placing both vehicles in the same path.
Authorities say Marston accelerated and attempted to pass the truck on the right side as it entered the roadway. During that maneuver, his motorcycle collided with the front corner of the pickup truck, resulting in a violent and devastating crash that left him critically injured.
Emergency responders immediately initiated life-saving efforts at the scene, working urgently to stabilize him. Despite their efforts, Marston was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries. The driver of the pickup truck and both passengers were not injured.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident to determine all contributing factors. Officials have not yet released information about speed, visibility, or other possible conditions. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation remains ongoing, while the community mourns the loss of a life cut tragically short.
