Mass Shooting at Winston-Salem Park Leaves Two Teens Dead, Several Injured

A quiet Monday morning in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was shattered by gunfire after a mass shooting at Leinbach Park left two teenagers dead and several others injured. What began as a reported fight quickly escalated into a deadly confrontation, leaving the community in shock and mourning the loss of young lives.

According to the Winston-Salem Police Department, officers were dispatched around 9:52 a.m. following reports of a fight in progress at the park. While responding, additional calls came in reporting gunfire and multiple victims. The situation rapidly intensified, prompting a large police presence and emergency response.

Investigators say early findings suggest the violence stemmed from a pre-arranged confrontation involving juveniles. When the groups met, tensions escalated, resulting in multiple individuals exchanging gunfire in a public space. Officers arriving at the scene encountered chaos, with people fleeing in different directions as the shooting unfolded.

Authorities identified one of the victims as 17-year-old Erubey Romero Medina, who was found in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, 16-year-old Daniel Jimenez Millian, was located deeper inside the park and also succumbed to his injuries despite emergency efforts.

Additional victims were discovered nearby in the parking lot along Robinhood Road. Officials reported that five other individuals — ranging in age from 14 to 19 — sustained gunshot wounds of varying severity. Some of those injured are believed to have been involved in the exchange of gunfire, though authorities have not released further details as the investigation continues.

Police say the case remains active as detectives work to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and reconstruct the sequence of events. The department is urging anyone with information to come forward and is asking the public to avoid spreading unverified details. As the investigation unfolds, the Winston-Salem community is left grieving a tragic act of violence that claimed young lives and left many others affected.
